We believe that the young men at HIBS have great value in God’s eyes and have been created for a meaningful purpose in life. Our message is that every student and staff member has a hope and a future and we are proactive about encouraging them to develop their potential in every way.
As a Chaplaincy team, we strive to create a supportive environment where people experience God’s love through seeing faith in action in our community.
Our hope is that young men would recognise their potential, and partner with God to make a difference in the world.

CHAPEL SERVICES
At the Staff chapel service at the beginning of the year we introduced our theme for the year - ’Grateful 2020’. Gratefulness being the thankful appreciation for what we have in our lives, both tangible and intangible, and the honoring of our individual and collective whakapapa. Gratitude and well-being are inextricably linked.
Our heart is to instill hope, gratitude and purpose into the boys’ everyday lives. Helping them to discover that being thankful is a strategy, a lifestyle, a way of living and being that brings freedom and refreshment to ourselves and others. Gratitude being one of the antidotes to entitlement and anxiety helping build strength and resilience.
Commencement Service is a traditional event for the entire school community held at the start of each year. At this service we set aside time to pray together for the individual House groups and for the school community as a whole for God’s blessing for the year ahead. The Year 7 students and their families are welcomed into the HIBS community and the Year 13 students receive their Proprietors tie.
Weekly reflections on our school values and practical Christianity occur in school assemblies. Whole school chapel services are held twice a term inclusive of Easter and Christmas.
