“Te toi whakairo, ka ihiihi, ka wehiwehi, ka aweawe te ao katoa –
Artistic excellence makes the world sit up and wonder.” (NZCurriculum 2007)
The Visual Art Department’s aim is for HIBS’ students to become critical and creative thinkers through the Visual World.
Through a range of art-making activities, our programme helps and encourages students to develop a sense of personal and communal identity, along with an appreciation and respect for their own, as well as others, cultures and societies.
Study in the Visual Arts also provides a substantial area of recreational and employment opportunities. Careers which use analytical, creative, entrepreneurial and problem-solving skills are enhanced through learning in the arts.
